In September 2012 Pet Shop Boys released a new album, entitled "Elysium", on Parlophone. Title was ispired by the park "Elysei" in L.A. fitting to the album mood. Work name of the album was HappySad. The album was produced in Los Angeles by Andrew Dawson and Pet Shop Boys. The album is available in standard CD, digital download and limited edition double CD and 12" where the bonus discs contains an instrumental versions of the album tracks. On iTunes it is available with special master for iTunes and will also include two videos and a track-by-track commentary of Neil and Chris discussing the music with David Walliams.
Pet Shop Boys said: “It was inspiring to make an album in Los Angeles, and to work with a producer from a different musical genre, who has brought a new dimension to our music”. Several tracks on “Elysium” features backing vocals by singer/songwriter James Fauntleroy and veteran singers Oren, Maxine and Julie Waters whose long singing career spans sessions with The Jackson Five to Adele.
To give an idea of the album’s sound, a short film for the album track “Invisible” was available to view online. The film was made by renowned Los Angeles artist/film-maker Brian Bress. Original name of video is Fancy Dress Ball (2012). Presented on wall mounted framed HD monitor. Original lenght is 17 minutes (loop).
First single from "Elysium" was "Winner" released on 6 August. Second single "Leaving" (earlier supposed to be release as first single but EMI decided in last minute to release "Winner" first) was released on October 15th. "Memory of the future" going to be third single, which should be released at the end of year.
